Summer break may be a great time for students, but it is a tough time for the math they learned the school year before, a lot of which tends to be forgotten. To fix this, Seattle MESA has created the Summer Math Scholars . Summer Math is a three-week program that helps incoming high school students freshen their math skills, easing the transition to high school-level mathematics.

At Summer Math, students learn the skills needed to succeed in college-prep math courses. They work collaboratively to solve complex real-world problems, learn to take responsibility for their own learning, and have the opportunity to connect with teachers, professionals, and undergraduate STEM (Science Technology Engineering and/or Math) students at the University of Washington.

“I got much stronger at math, and I feel comfortable doing Math. I went from hating math to it being my favorite subject.”—2014 Summer Math Scholar.

“My relationship with my tutor was really fun. Even though they are college people, they are still kids. It was easier to connect with my tutors because they were still close to our age.”—2014 Summer Math Scholar.
